Festival of Stars

Five Angels from:

Darien "Dare" Borodin has no need to really speak to his
father unless he is on his way out of town just to say bye or with a
scribbled note. Dare works for a company that specializes in technical
translations and at the moment his latest assignment is in Seattle. Since
his job allows him to do traveling, he really doesn't have a home base to
settle his head. After a car accident sends him to the emergency ward, he
may have met the one woman to give him roots to settle down, a woman that
looks strikingly familiar.
Dr. Kristin Olafsson is an emergency
room physician who cares about injured patients. The minute she and Dare
interact; something strikes a cord in Dare he never felt before. She makes
him come alive. When she meets Dare, on that rainy, stormy night in the
ER, it appears he has just the right spirit to bring pleasure into her
life. There is something distinctive about Dare, as if they had met
before, and were brought back together under unu sual circumstances. If by
fate, then Dare will make sure Kristin stays in his life for good. Kristin
makes him feel good about himself, but he has issues in his life with
family, and prejudices that still create bad memories in his life. First,
he must face his father, who disowned him years prior, and put some things
in order, and then he can be with the woman he loves. He can only hope he
can get through his troubled past to find a wonderful future with the
woman of his dreams, Kristin.
What a beautiful story. Festival
of Stars allows two loving people another chance in life to be with
each other. This tender story, with characters that reach out and grab the
reader's heart, captivates beyond words. Dare and Kristin both face
obstructions that spin into their life with family, with their different
upbringings. While Kristin gained strength through her roots, it was quite
opposite for Dare. When they unite, it gives one hope that things can work
out for the better fo r everyone in society, and that is what I liked
about this story. Eilis Flynn stages a heartwarming read, one full
of emotions and family issues that transpire in real life. The story of
the stars and the meeting of the lovers was told beautifully and is one I
shall always remember.

Romance
Dare Borodin is a technical translator. He travels the
country and the world, but really has no place to call home. His only
family is his father, and that is not saying much. Dare has been adrift in
his life, but a trip to the emergency room may just give him the anchor he
is looking for.
Dr. Kristin Olafsson is a study in contrasts. She is the
proud product of an American father, a Japanese mother, and a Swedish
grandmother. Her career as an emergency room physician keeps her very
busy, but is not as fulfilling as she had hoped. A stormy night at the
hospital brings a surprising kindred spirit into her world.
Dare never thought a trip to the emergency room could be
fortuitous. He was nursing a broken wrist, when he met Dr. Olafsson.
Immediately there was a connection. Not only was she beautiful and exotic,
but she stirred feelings in him that were long buried. Kristin was also
intrigued with her new patient, and he seemed very familiar to her
somehow. They went their separate ways, but were destined to meet again
under similar circumstances. Dare was not going to let her get away this
time. He wanted to see if the connection between them was real. Kristin
made him realize that there were some things in his life he had neglected
for far too long. Before they could be together, Dare would have to
overcome a life of prejudices, and embrace his heritage. Would their
feelings for each other be able to heal wounds that were a lifetime in the
making?
This story was so bittersweet. The obstacles that
Kristin and Dare had to face are shockingly common even in today’s
society. Kristin was brought up in a family that embraced their
differences and became stronger because of it. Dare was forced to deny his
true identity, and this drove a wedge between him and his father that
could never be repaired. This story exemplifies the state of the world.
This was a beautiful love story and so much more.

Once a
year the Weaver Princess and Cowherder have the possibility of meeting in
the sky. The weather must be clear or they must wait another
year. When the two star-crossed lovers meet "across the Milky Way"
it is known as the "Festival of Stars." The Emperor of the sky
decreed that it was his daughter, the Weaver Princess' "task of picking
the stars and designing the rich and bejeweled cloth for the gods of the
constellations." She fell in love with the Cowherder and they
"neglected their duties." The Emperor was angry and refused to allow
the two lovers to see each other. They begged for mercy and he
relented allowing them one day a year. The ravens were their
servants and formed a bridge across the River of Heaven so the lovers
could meet. If conditions aren't right for a meeting they must wait
another year.
The Pascisci, Indiana emergency
room was extremely busy and there was a torrent of rain as Dare Borodin
held his wrist while waiting to see a doctor. He'd been involved in
an automobile accident. It would have been laughable if he hadn't
been in so much pain. The road was very slick, when he was
broadsided by a woman when her Chihuahua had been startled by the thunder
and had nipped the woman's ear causing her to lose control of her
vehicle. The dog had been sitting on her head. The beautiful
doctor that assisted him was Dr. Kristin Olafsson. It was a chance
encounter; both felt a connection, both went their own
way.
A year later, another emergency
room, this time in Seattle, Washington, another accident, Dare was riding
a bicycle when he was hit by a car. Once again the road was slick
from rain causing a car to skid and hit his bike. This time instead
of a broken arm Dare had a banged-up leg. Once again he sees Dr.
Kristin Olafsson. Taking pity on him, she drives him home, shops for
food and stays for pizza. They both realize the undeniable
connection between the two of them. Are these two destined to pass
in the sky or will they find true love?
"Festival of Stars" by Eilis Flynn is a love
story. This tale begins with the retelling of an ancient love
story. The two main characters are living out the story through
their lives. Kristin and Dare are in love with each other though it
seems to take them a while to figure it out. Their lives seem to
have continuous connections and separations. The love scenes are
very well written, readers will feel themselves drawn in. Fans of
romance will enjoy "Festival of Stars" and will look for more books by
Eilis Flynn.

Four roses for FoS!
FESTIVAL
OF STARS by Eilis Flynn is an engaging story. It
drew me in right at the very first page, beginning with the telling of an
ancient legend involving star lovers and the Milky Way. Who could resist a
tale that begins this way? Not I.
By the time I was fully engrossed
in the story, I hardly batted an eye at the sometimes out-of-this-world
details that come into play, seemingly from all angles. Multilingual
doctors, head-sitting dogs causing car accidents, conversations in
Japanese and Swedish and packed full of surprises-this book is highly
entertaining. Eilis Flynn has a vivid imagination and it
makes her stories, and especially her characters shine.
This author
knows how to write a love scene, too. Let's just say there was one shower
scene that truly left me breathless-and I loved it!
Well written,
with witty dialogue and a story that had me wondering until the very end
whether or not the legend would be satisfied, I enjoyed reading
FESTIVAL OF STARS by Eilis Flynn.

Who doesn't
love fairytales? Eilis Flynn pens a compelling story of
two lovers destined to be together, yet driven apart. The ravens
flock to urge the lovers together in the Japanese tradition of
Tanabata--Festival of Stars.
Dare Borodin learned early in life to
hide his half-Japanese heritage. Kristin Olafsson takes great pride
in her mixed heritage, using cultural skills learned from her Japanese
mother and her Swedish grandmother.
When first the ravens flocked,
Dare had broken his wrist in a car accident and went to the ER for
treatment. Dr. Kristin Olafsson confused him with her Japanese
looks and Swedish height. He managed to say everything wrong;
needless to say, the lovers weren't meant to be together that night.
Two years later, he hurt his knee, and once again Dr. Olafsson treated
him. The stars seemed more aligned this time, but a terrible faux
pas separated the couple once more.
What an incredible
interweaving of Japanese tradition and modern romance! Kristin and
Dare are wonderful characters in this story of love, loss, and loving
again. Ms. Flynn ties ravens, a second chance,
racial prejudice, and true love altogether in a riveting story--a romantic
tale to warm your heart.
I highly recommend this book!
