Aphrodite's
Necklace
by Heather
Hiestand
When Hephaestus exiled Aphrodite to London , he
deliberately chose one of this world’s most sexually-repressed times and
societies. How was he to know how much mischief his willful wife would
cause?

Tired of hertrained courtesans and
lovers-for-hire, Aphrodite decides to make a spell that will ensnare the
love and desire of innocents. With this, she would rebuild London society
into a place more suited to her nature. When a worshiper brings her a
diamond necklace as an enticement to attend a ball, she finds the very
tool she needs in order to begin her plan.
Emily’s family
stand on the brink of ruin, and her marriage must be to someone with
wealth and means in order to save them. William is a butler in her
household. It is forbidden for them to socialize, let alone love and wed.
When Aphrodite attends the ball at Emily ’s house, the young woman finds
the necklace the goddess leaves behind, and the two become entangled with
each other.
Returning the
necklace, however, does not solve their problems. How can a footman and a
young lady love? How can they continue to follow their desire when it
could mean ruin for them both?
The story
follows the twists and turns of their decisions as they try to abide by
society’s rules, and honor a love that Aphrodite’s spell has ignited. I
enjoyed the way Emily comes to understand the joy of loving, as well as
they way she faces her future and tries to come up with a solution that
sees William in it, as more than a butler.
I also enjoyed
seeing William slide from the role of butler to lover and back again, as
he tries to live within a society that will reject a butler’s love for a
young lady.
All in all, an
interesting tale with an ending bound to satisfy.
